Vista (CA) High School CB Stefan McClure hasn't narrowed things down to a top five yet. But he says the Canes are very much in the mix to make his final cut.
"I'm at 14 right now - the only one I have in there for sure is Washington - I have an official set up there - and UCLA," McClure said. "In mid August I'll decide on my officials."
Of Miami, he says, "I know about the program, have never been out there. I know about the great family tradition, the people they put in the league, that it's a private school with a 12:1 student teacher ratio."
Coach Micheal Barrow is recruiting McClure to Miami.
"I talk to him once a week and we email back and forth," McClure said. "We have a good relationship. I talk to him all the time about football, life, track - it's a real good relationship I have with him.
"I've also talked to coach Shannon a couple of times, and coach (Wesley) McGriff. Coach Shannon, he was just talking about how he liked my (highlight) tape, how they have to get me out there for a visit and that I'd just love Miami."
McClure says there are a handful of coaches he talks to at least once a week - from UM, Washington, UCLA, Oregon State and Boise State.
"Those are schools I talk to a lot - others I email back and forth with," McClure said.
Of what he's looking for in a college, McClure said, "It has to be great competition, education, a great coaching staff, a chance to play young, as early as possible."
The percent chance he chooses Miami for one of his official visits?
"Right now probably 65 percent because I have to still sit down and talk with my family about which schools and this and that," McClure said.
As a junior McClure finished with two interceptions and 38 tackles, adding 36 receptions for over 700 yards with two touchdowns as a slot receiver. He also returned a punt for a touchdown.
